The Mangapurua Cycleway

The Mangapurua Cycleway has been developed by using the existing Ruatiti Road, which was originally formed in the early 1900’s as the access to the Mangapurua Valley for the Returned Servicemen and their families who tried to tame and farm the valley.  After extensive upgrading this part of the National Cycleway is now said to be the North Island’s “best adventure ride”, and we have got together with some other locals and put together some exciting packages so that you can make the most of your “adventure ride

These packages , ideal for a weekend getaway, take all the hassle out of organising your fun time.    We’ve taken care of your accommodation, and we are able to organise shuttle transport to the start of the track.   We’ll pick you up at the Mangapurua Landing (on the other side of The Bridge to Nowhere) and of course then you will have the opportunity to sit back and relax on the jetboat journey from the Mangapurua Landing to Pipiriki, and the shuttle service will pick you up at Pipiriki to return you to your accommodation.

All the operators involved in our packages are local people, with a wealth of history and stories between us.  We are all proud to be associated with the district, and some of us even rode horses to the local primary school – Orautoha.  You will find the most wonderful stands of native bush, strong farm country, and probably see some of our native Whio – the Blue Duck, bobbing about on the Manganui o Te Ao as you travel through the valleys. The film crew and stars of The River Queen actually stopped filming on Claire’s family farm to quietly watch these endangered ducks as they made their way upriver, quite oblivious to the fact that they were upstaging the likes of Temuera Morrison, Cliff Curtis and Kiefer Sutherland!
